The primary outcome measure was improvement in ADHD symptoms at the end of the study. The secondary outcomes were symptom improvement, adverse effects, and efficacy of the additional medication or medication dose.
The primary outcome measure was change in the Global Assessment of Functioning Scale (GAFF), the primary measure of ADHD symptoms. A total of 3,918 patients (mean age was 39.5±10.7 years) were recruited in the study. Of the 3,918 patients, 6,749 (65%) were female, 1,071 (11%) were male, and 1,061 (11%) were Caucasian. The median dose of quetiapine (25 mg) and atypical antipsychotics (25 mg and 100 mg) was 100 mg daily and 25 mg, respectively. The median duration of atypical antipsychotic treatment (25 mg and 50 mg) was 3.5 days. The mean total dose of quetiapine was 25.1±10.3 mg, and the mean total dose of atypical antipsychotic was 25.7±12.0 mg. The mean score of the GAFF was 8.1±4.4. The primary outcome was improvement in ADHD symptoms at the end of the study.
